I thought I’d go off topic for this blog to talk about my final project.
I’m planning on doing my social media on Hanna Wilson's photography business she started her senior year here at Appalachian State.
Hanna and I grew up together since preschool. She’s always been interested in photography, she always had a disposable camera at all the field trips our schools would take. From the zoo in kindergarten to sleeping under the sharks in fifth grade. She started editing pictures she’d take in middle school, posting them to Myspace and then in high school she started collecting cameras throughout (Having photographed a wedding or two our senior year). She decided to go to Appalachian State after touring the photography studio and speaking with some of the professors.
Her career at Appalachian was something to be proud of. She went to multiple place with the photography department, capturing her adventures and the beauty on her cameras.
From Hanna:
“Throughout the years I’ve dabbled with several different types of photography, but after shadowing a fellow wedding photographer, I’ve found that I have a deep passion for photographing adventurous couples and telling their story. I’ve been shooting weddings for about 5 years now, and nothing makes me more excited than seeing how deeply two people can love each other. I’m all about those candid moments, so my goal is to capture you and your lover in your element. I would love to have the opportunity to document your story.”
She graduated in May, so now she's a full-time wedding photographer based out of Boone. Her parents bought her website domain for her as a graduation gift so she has that going for her. I've been exchanging messages with her for the past week or so because she's never really thought through her social media presence. Her website is very well constructed though, we've already added an option when people get in touch with her via her website it asks how they found out about her. As of right now, her Instagram has the most followers (nearing 2,500), Facebook is nearing 300 likes/following and the one thing we need to work on is a Twitter. She doesn't have a Twitter, which isn't harmful but it would be useful to have one.
Her social media presence is really strong for her to not really know much about social media strategy. She's very good at tagging via Instagram and commenting with people in the comment section of her photos. She wants a plan though that will help direct more traffic to her website and getting her photographs to have more shares and views. I've spoken to her about Twitter and she's curious to see how that social media tool will help along with Hootsuite. She's excited about using Hootsuite to help manage her social media accounts and be able to share her pictures to multiple sites with just the click of a button. Her LinkedIn also needs some work to showcase her photographs, experience and a link to her website.
