First off, please watch this video and enjoy.
I recently applied for a post-grad internship with Hendrick Motorsports, a leading NASCAR Motorsports operation.
A Content Communications Intern
It's crazy how this sort of fell into my lap. I've always been pretty good at following organizations and their players/drivers - but once I started getting into the higher level Communication classes here at Appalachian State University I realized I needed to start following more people behind the scenes. I started focusing on the PR and Communication people of NFL teams - mostly the Broncos. I was very narrow-minded at first. This past year I started following more and more PR Representatives and Communication people for other teams and sports. I've broadened my horizons, added more views points and opened my mind to more opportunities and ideas.
Hendrick Motorsports are "interested in locating a candidate who has a strong interest in the public relations and/or digital media field. The role requires ingenuity; impeccable interpersonal communication skills; familiarity with Associated Press style and editing; excellent grammar and creative writing skills; an understanding of the existing and evolving digital media landscape; and the desire to learn and grow."
This hands-on opportunity will build work experience and help me learn the behind-the-scenes operations of a professional sports team. I'm super excited for the opportunity and fingers crossed I get it. This is one heck of an opportunity and it'll open so many doors for me. I'm pretty confident too, with everything I've learned at App I have a feeling I have a pretty good handle on what Hendrick Motorsports is expecting.
To think, in seven months I may be working for NASCAR - something I've thought about since I was 4.
Wild.
